Workshop on “Community Radio Management and Strategic Planning”

New Executive Committee
[Posted: 15th Oct 2006] 21st Annual General Body Meeting Of NEFEJ, held on 14th October 2006, has elected a 13 member executive committee under the Presidentship of Mr. Sahaj Man Shrestha.

The Committee comprises of Mr. Chandra Kishor Jha, Vice President, Ms Sangeeta Lama, General Secretary, Mr. Dilip Kafle, Secretary, Mr. Tika Ram Rai, Treasurer.

Other members of the committee are Mr. Abdullah Miya, Mr. Subodh Gautam, Mr. Laxman Upreti, Mr. Govinda Pokhrel, Mr. Bharat Raj Pokhrel, Mr. Siddartha Kumar Shakya, Mr. Suryaman Shakya and Dr. Mukesh Chalise.

The meeting also elected a three member Account Committee under the convernorship of Mr. Krishna Murari Bhandari. The other members of the committee are Ms Nirmala Sharma and Mr. Bal Krishna Chapagai.

Environment Issues in Political Negotiations: An Interaction Programme
In the ongoing political talks about constituent assembly and interim constitution issues like sustainable management of natural resources, environment preservation and citizens’ right to live in a clean environment have been ignored. Workshop for station managers
The Community Radio Support Centre (CRSC) of the Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists is organising a workshop entitled “Joint Marketing and Strategic Planning” which will be participated by station managers of various Community Radio Stations across the country.

The workshop will be held at the Nepal Forum of Environment Journalists in Thapathali, Kathmandu from 13 to 15 July 2006.

    CRSC Coordinator Meets Minister
    Coordinator of Community Radio Support Centre Raghu Mainali made a courtesy call on newly appointed Minister of State for Information and Communication Dilendra Prasad Badu. During his meeting coordinator Mainali briefed the minister on the situation of community radios in the country and their needs.
    Peer Review
    Vice chairman of Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists Tika Ram Rai and Asia-Pacific Coordinator of AMARC (a international association of community radio broadcasters), Suman Basnet visited community radio stations around the country to review achievements of the various activities of the Community Radio Support Centre.

    During the tour they reviewed improvements in programmes of the community radio stations that had received training and technical support from the Centre. The duo visited Himchuli FM of Pokhara, Muktinath FM of Tansen, Radio Lumbini of Butwal and Rupandehi F. M. of Bhairahawa.

    Grant Distribution for Community Radios
    After evaluating the grant proposals submitted to it by community radio stations, the committee gave grants to five radio stations. Those receiving a grant included Radio Swargadwari of Dang, Himchuli F. M. of Pokhara, Palung F. M. of Makwanpur district. Solu F. M. of Solukhumbu district and Radio Bheri of Surkhet district.

    The grant was provided for the purchase of equipment and technical upgrading of radio stations. Each station could receive up to US$ 5,000.

    Grant Committee Visit Radio Stations
    Chairman and members of the grant fund committee of Community Radio Support Centre visited community radio stations. Chairman Bhairab Raisal, members Om Khadka and Bhupendra Basnet and member secretary Raghu Mainali were in the touring team.

    The team visited Radio Palung of Makwanpur district, Bijaya F. M. of Nawalparasi district, Radio Lumbini of Rupandehi district, Radio Madanpokhara and Muktinath F.M. of Palpa district, Himchuli F. M. of Kaski district, Radio Swargadwari of Dang district, Bheri Awaj of Banke district and Radio Bheri of Surkhet district.
    Focal Point for Community Radios
    NEFEJ/CRSC has eastablished two regional focal support centers for community radio stations. The objective of focal point is became a technical facility center. The center is operating and managing by a committee of local local community radio stations. more...

    Dissemination programme on outcomes of Sustainability Watch Report
    Realizing the important role of the Civil Society for the effective advocacy of Millennium Development Goals and Sustainability, NEFEJ has put its effort, for the first time, to track down the progress and challenges of goals in Nepal. On behalf of the Civil Society of Nepal, we have initiated to develop analysis and assessments of the barriers to the implementation of the MDGs particularly sustainability related Goals 1, 7 and 8.
