Interaction on "Dwindling Rhinos"

In the past few months the number of rhinos being killed in Chitwan, Bardiya and Shuklaphanta, their main habitats, has shot up dramatically. Furthermore, a preliminary study of this incidence in Bardiya National Park and the latest reports from Chitwan national Park has brought to light a new challenge in the conservation of the one-horned rhino. Until a few months back the armed conflict between the government and Maoists was considered to be the main reason for the poaching of this endangered animal. It’s almost been four months since the fighting stopped, but the killing of rhinos continues unabated. For example, in the past one month alone, six rhinos were killed in Chitwan. What are the reasons for this?

Advocacy Unit is organizing an interaction program on this important issue of nature conservation.
