| NEFEJ Filed Writ Against Govt Order to Block BBC |
NEFEJ filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court
(SC) on Friday against the government's order to stop the broadcasting
of the BBC Nepali Service on Radio Sagarmatha.
NEFEJ's General Secretary Bhupendra Basnet filed the writ on behalf of Radio Sagarmatha. Ministry of Information and Communications had issued a notice, ordering the closure of BBC uplinks by the radio, on the same day (evening) when the Supreme Court asked the government to allow news from FM radios. The writ also requests the Court to take action against the government for ignoring its ruling. A group of policemen and officials of the Ministry of Information and Communications had raided the Sagarmatha FM radio on November 27, and walked off with transmission equipments. The Court had ruled not to obstruct news on FM radios in response to a writ filed by advocate Tulsi Ram Niraula on 30th November, next day of the interim order by Supreme Court for Radio Sagarmatha. Hearing on Friday’s writ is scheduled for Sunday, December 4 |
