With the message of “Peace and Unity” among people, a lamp lighting ceremony was held at Swayambhu at dawn Yesterday May 27, 2010. Various programmes were organized on the occasion of 2554th Birth Anniversary of the Lord Buddha and 15th successful renovation of in wayambhu Nath Stupa in Kathmandu.

Buddha Jayanti is the special occasion for both Hindus and Buddhists. Buddhists of all persuasions throughout the Valley, as well as pilgrims from abroad, honor the Buddha on this day, most particularly at the two great stupas Swayambhunath and Boudhanath. These two are the busiest venue for the day of Buddha Jayanti where thousands of devotees pay their prayers and puja to the apostle of peace Lord Buddha.

As the birth, enlightenment and Nirvana of Lord Buddha falls on the same day of the full moon of the fourth lunar month (month of Baisakh), Buddhists around the world, including Nepal, observe Buddha Jayanti with respect and devotion to Buddha. Gautam Buddha’s philosophy of Buddhism does not entail any theistic world-view. The teachings of the Buddha are solely to liberate human beings from the misery and sufferings of life.
