NEFEJ had awarded the "Environment Journalism Award 2009" to the journalist P.T Lopchen of Solukhumbu district.

Journalist Lopchen is associated with Solukhumbu Post weekly, Solu correspondent of Rajdhani Daily and Program Producer of Solu F.M of Solukhumbu.
Journalist Lopchen is honored for his contribution in covering current environment issues and analysing its local impact.

The award was declared on June 5 to mark the world environment day.

The three member's selection committee comprised of environment expert Dr. Tirtha Bahadur Shrestha, senior environment journalist Mohan Mainali and Binod Bhattarai.

The award carries a cash prize of RS. 25,000 and a certificate of merit. NEFEJ endowed the prize in the year 1987.

The award has gone to 23 journalists for their contribution in the area of environment journalism and conservation.
