Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ)
has completed two decades of continuous work
in the spheres of environmental protection and
sustainable development. Formed in 1986 by a
group of journalists with an objective of promoting
the participation of mass media - both print
and electronic - in raising public awareness
in these vital areas of national life.
NEFEJ now undertakes various programs overreaching
a multitude of activities to try to effect positive
changes in the environmental field and other
social areas. A pioneer on its field, NEFEJ
has grown to be a unique media organization
and one of the most active environmental NGOs
of the country.
The 'Forum', as it is popularly known in the
fields of environment and media, has become
synonymous with an organization that is credible,
serious, committed and democratic, and has thus
earned many admirers. NEFEJ was awarded with
ENVIRONMENT CONSERVATION AWARD by His Majesty's
Government of Nepal for its 'outstanding
contribution for protection of environment and
creating environmental awareness'
in 1995.
Nefej is a membership organization. Nepal
journalists, either working in print, radio
or TV, are awarded full membership. Nepali experts
or others who are involved in environmental
conservation can become associate members of
the Forum. In general, with a multi-media approach,
it seeks to sensitize journalists, politicians,
policy - and decision-makers, opinion leaders,
as well as the general public, to environmental
and development issues.
