Audio Visual Department

When NEFEJ decided to diversify from print media as a vehicle and started making use of audio-visual media for greater impact, the organization did not have much experience. Neither did it have the right manpower nor the budget. But within a few years, AANKHIJHYAL proved to be one of the biggest successes story in the history of NEFEJ, with appreciation coming from all around.

That was back in 1990. In the twelve years since then, the Audio-Visual Unit (AVU) of the NEFEJ has established itself as one of the most effective delivery mechanisms of information on development issues. It picks up what is ignored by the rest to a dazzling effect. The response from viewers is simply encouraging. Suffice it to say that it has gone a long way in shaping the public opinion on issues related to environment and sustainable development.

The excellent work being done by AVU did not go unnoticed. The year 1997 saw Television Trust for the Environment (TVE) --- a London-based non-profit organization --- appointing NEFEJ as its Video Resource Centre in Nepal. As per this arrangement the AVU translates, broadcasts, distributes and sells internationally acclaimed titles produced and/or distributed by TVE, as well as functions as the local commission agent for TVE Asia-Pacific.

By now the Audio Visual Department (AVD) has a rich collection of audio-visual images from its own Aankhijhyaal productions and from the TVE films, making it an invaluable centre for those looking for video material from fields as diverse as development, environment, community rights, public health and so on. A complete list of the Aankhijhyaal programmes, NEFEJ documentaries, TVE films and other programmes in the AVD collection can be accessed here.
